Heart of Sidley successfully hosted 2 Spring Holiday Clubs in conjunction with ESCC HAF Programme.
Working in partnership with Fit & Fab Families, Bexhill Family Collective and Culture Shift, Heart of Sidley were able to provide fun, food and fabulous activities for lots of children and their families, across 3 days, over the Spring break!

We have loads of FREE and fun activities to do in the summer school holiday’s this year.
Plus we have FREE activity passes for Heart of Sidley families for Freedom Leisure single swim pass at Bexhill Pool at Ravenside, Bexhill or a mini golf voucher for Hastings mini golf on Hastings seafront.

Plans are being developed to provide residents with new high-quality opportunities for sport and recreation at Sidley Recreation Ground (Canada Way / Buxton Drive) in Bexhill. This exciting project backed by Sport England and British Cycling aims to deliver a modern floodlit skatepark, an enhanced floodlit BMX race track and an innovative BMX jump park all of which will be available for community use.
Rother District Council is working with partner organisations including the Heart of Sidley and Sussex Police, relevant user groups including the Bexhill Skatepark Action Group and Jumpclub BMX and other leading experts and contractors in the field to deliver the best possible results.
Experienced designers and installers of skateparks, Canvas Spaces have been working collaboratively with the local skateboarding community, freestyle BMX-ers and scooter users to design a skatepark for all abilities within these disciplines, as well as by in-line skaters. The participation of Bexhill Skatepark Action Group (supported by Bexhill Lions), The Source Park, South Coast BMX and Ian Deacon (Flip Skateboards) has been invaluable and we look forward to being able to share the amazing results of this work in progress with the community in the early summer.
It’s estimated that the project will cost approximately £900,000 and will be funded primarily by money from the Council’s capital programme along with grants secured from external bodies. Grants totalling almost £530,000 have so far been secured from Sport England, British Cycling, the Big Local (through the Heart of Sidley), the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL), BMX Club fundraisers and other sources including Hastings Roundtable.
There is much to do before construction of the new facilities can begin. The key milestones in the journey towards the goal of opening the new facilities in spring 2022 are set out below. The community is encouraged to play their part in making this project a success by taking part in this short survey.

In March 2021 we lost our much loved Heart of Sidley partner -Philip Holloway.
Philip was very passionate about making Sidley a better place to live and has been part of the partnership from the beginning.
His kindness and sense of humour was always appreciated and he and his partner Peter would always support Heart of Sidley community events however they could, whether it was to welcome residents, or take part in an activity, he always brought a sense of fun to everything he did.
Philip regularly attended meetings, and really understood Sidley, he was keen to put residents first.
We’re so pleased that he was able to have his say and be so positive, Philip we will miss you and thank you for all you have done.
We’ve been working really hard behind the scenes to look at the future sustainability of Heart of Sidley for the Sidley community. As we approach the end of our 6th year as a Big Local area, and after a year of discussions and working together, we can now make the very exciting announcement that Heart of Sidley has recently taken the Sidley Community Association charity (charity number 1068217) under our wing.
This is very exciting news for us, as many of you know, the HOS partnership is an informal structure made up of local residents and business owners. To begin with, we will run SCA as a Heart of Sidley project. And we’ll gradually merge to become one entity by the end of the Heart of Sidley 10 year life span as a Big Local area, in 2025. Three of our wonderful partners – Linda Seddon, Nikki Collins, and Steve Lucas – have volunteered to be the first new trustees of SCA, and have been successfully appointed by the Charity Commission.
Sidley Community Association has been part of the Sidley community for over 20 years. The previous trustees had committed their time to SCA so valuably for so long, it would have been a tragedy to close the charity down. Our values and objectives are similar and we want to ensure we do justice in continuing their legacy alongside our own for future generations in Sidley. We’d like to give our thanks to the last standing trustees – Tim Hemmings, Stephen White, and Jean Burke – for everything they’ve done over the last few years in ensuring SCA continued successfully.
SCA have been well known for their Summer party and Christmas dinner for local seniors, and they’ve handed their remaining funds to The Pelham to continue this good work at the community centre.
We‘ve made a good start with SCA, and now we need more trustees, so we want people who feel they have skills to offer to get involved. Being a trustee is voluntary and doesn’t take up too much time but it is a serious commitment. And it‘s such a wonderful opportunity to be part of something that can make such a big difference in our are.
Heart of Sidley’s vision is:
ACT. BELONG. COMMIT – by 2025 Sidley will be a place where people will want to be actively involved in a community that they are proud to belong to and that has a commitment to its future.
Heart of Sidley is a community-led partnership, led entirely by local residents, in partnership with local organisations, businesses, and others. It has been awarded £1m over 10 years by Local Trust (via the National Lottery Community Fund) to improve the area and make it a better place to live, as one of 150 Big Local areas across the country.
We’re a very proactive and driven group of people here at the Heart of Sidley, who are all part the Sidley community ourselves. We try to ensure voices are heard and action is taken in our commitment to improving the area and opportunities for local people.
